A hospital's approval for treatment does not automatically answer who will pay for oxygen equipment after discharge. Public schemes have their own eligibility, approval and supply arrangements. Before making a financial commitment, ask the relevant scheme to confirm the route for the exact home-oxygen requirement.

Start with the beneficiary's scheme

Check the active beneficiary record and contact the scheme through its official channel or the treating hospital's beneficiary desk. Explain that the request concerns equipment used at home, rather than oxygen supplied during an admission. Give the prescribed delivery mode, expected use and proposed rental or purchase arrangement without guessing how long therapy will continue.

For CGHS, ask the wellness centre or relevant administrative office for the current respiratory-device permission process. Confirm the application route for the beneficiary's category, required specialist documents, approval authority, applicable financial limit and any supplier restrictions. This guide does not publish a guaranteed entitlement or a current ceiling price.

Ask ESIC about the permitted route

Contact the allotted ESI facility or the relevant medical-benefit office. Ask whether equipment can be supplied, loaned or arranged through an approved process, and what applies if it is unavailable. Obtain advice before paying privately on the assumption that reimbursement will follow.

The ESI Act's medical-benefit provisions make benefit and reimbursement subject to the applicable arrangements and regulations. A private prescription or a receipt is not, on its own, a promise of repayment.

Distinguish PM-JAY packages from home-device approval

PM-JAY uses defined treatment packages. The National Health Authority's package manual describes included treatment and specified follow-up components; it should not be read as blanket approval for a concentrator purchase. Ask the hospital's scheme desk or State Health Agency which current package, if any, addresses the proposed home support.

State programmes may operate alongside national arrangements. Confirm the current programme name, eligibility and benefit with the implementing agency. Do not rely on another family's approval, an old circular or a dealer's assurance that every state follows the same rule.

Get an answer you can act on

Request a written list of required documents, prior permissions, approved supply routes, limits and submission dates. Ask whether the decision covers equipment only or also rental periods, consumables, refills and servicing. Keep the reference number and contact responsible for follow-up.

If assistance is unavailable, ask the hospital's social-work or discharge team about other verified local options, without assuming that a loan pool exists. Coordinate a safe interim arrangement with the care team; do not interrupt prescribed oxygen while paperwork is pending. The explains how to organise the application and resolve missing information.
